
Dr. Brooke has a broad background of senior executive experience in both operational and academic leader positions. A retired Colonel, U.S. Army Medical Service Corps, his operational experience has spanned all levels of health services management, from command of a medical company in Vietnam to service as CEO of a 225-bed community hospital. In academe, he has chaired the Department of Health Care Administration and directed the U.S. Army-Baylor University Graduate Program in Health Care Administration; served as Dean of the U.S. Army's Academy of Health Sciences; and, upon retirement from the U.S. Army in 1994, was founding Regional Dean of the TTUHSC School of Allied Health at Odessa, Texas, and Director of Managed Care for TTUHSC, Odessa. Prior to assuming his current position in August 1998, he served for two years as Associate Professor of Management and Program Director of the M.B.A. Program in Health Care Management at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio.
Dr. Brooke holds an M.H.A. from Baylor University, an M.M.A.S. from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and a Ph.D. in Health Services Management from the University of Iowa. He has held academic appointments at Baylor, Trinity, UTHSC, Houston, Our Lady of the Lake, and Texas Tech universities, and has taught and published extensively in the areas of health services management, organization theory and behavior, and health policy analysis. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, and also maintains active membership in the Association of University Programs in Health Administration and the Academy of Management. He is Past President of the Texas Society of Allied Health Professions and served for many years as a member of the Editorial Board of the Texas Journal of Rural Health.
Dr. Brooke and his wife, Barbara, have three children, Christopher, Jessica and Stephen. Christopher is a career Infantry officer in the U.S. Army and has recently assumed duties as Aide de Camp for the Commanding General of the the Military District of Washington. Christopher and his wife Pam live in Springfield, VA with their two daughters. Jessica lives in San Antonio with her husband and two daughters. Stephen and his wife Andrea live in New York City, where Stephen is engaged in business. Barbara is a career elementary school teacher, and currently serves as Chair of History and 8th grade history and social studies teacher at Dunbar Middle School in Lubbock.
